FAQ

Important Note on Expectations of College Students:

These DE classes are all college level courses, and students must be capable of college level work. Our partnership with Yuba College helps facilitate closed course enrollment for our students, but does not make the workload or professor expectations any different. Watch for withdrawal/drop deadlines if you are feeling like a course is not a good fit.

Like in any college course, students, and not parents or HSTs are the people expected to communicate with college personnel. As professors are prohibited from communication with anyone other than the student, supporters should limit themselves to assisting young college students with communicating on their own behalf.

What are the benefits of Dual Enrollment?

Our partnership allows our high school students to take college classes FOR FREE that are specifically closed to our homeschooling high schoolers.

Also, students have the ability to complete the first two years of their bachelor's degree at most colleges before they finish high school.

What is the tentative two year cycle of classes?

How Do I Navigate my Portal and Canvas?

Get familiar with your Yuba College Portal. Your course(s) will be added to your portal by the start of the semester. Here are the step-by-step instructions:

Set up your Yuba College Account to access Self-Service, Canvas, student email, and more. To access your account, you need your User ID and Password.

  • Your user ID is your YC student ID number (beginning with the first letter of your last name.)

  • Your default password will be:

    • First letter of your first name (capitalize)

    • First letter of your last name (lower-case)

    • Last 4 numbers of your SSN (if there is no SSN on file, then use the last 4 digits of your student ID number)

    • Birth month (two digits, ex: May would be 05)

  • If you are having difficulties logging into your account, please contact the Helpdesk at helpdesk@yccd.edu or (530) 741-6981.

What about a local meet-up/study group?

Since it's just Sequoia Grove students in these classes, in-person study groups are a possibility. Indicate your interest and look for opportunities in Remind messaging.

What if this doesn't work out? How do I drop?

You can drop a course yourself from within your Yuba College portal. Be sure to pay attention to drop dates, so you know when the cut-offs are for dropping with or without a "W" on your transcript.

  1. Go to https://login.yccd.edu and enter your Campus ID and Password.

  2. Click on YC Self-Service for Yuba College.

  3. Click on Student Planning.

  4. Click on Go to Plan & Schedule.

  5. Click on Drop for the class you wish to drop.

  6. Click Update to confirm.

  7. Go back to Self Service. Once logged in, click on the graduation cap icon on the grey bar that runs up and down the left hand side of the screen. On the drop down that appears, please click on "Unofficial Transcript." Screenshot this as confirmation that you dropped.

  8. Send your screenshot to your counselor and HST to let them know about the drop.                                **This is a MUST do!***

If you have trouble dropping a class yourself, reach out to your Sequoia Grove counselor and we can assist.
